APPALACHIAN READING SERIES
November 3, 2009 - Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will continue its 2009-2010 Appalachian Reading Series with visiting author Karen Salyers McElmurray on Tuesday, November 3.
McElmurray is best known for her memoir Surrendered Child: A Birth Mother’s Journey, which novelist Lee Smith has called “an enlightening and redemptive work of art.” The book is a Kentucky birth mother's story of the relinquishment of her son to adoption in 1973.
McElmurray is an Assistant Professor of English at Georgia College and State University. Her short fiction has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and widely published in regional and national journals. She has worked with several creative writing programs and currently teaches in the low-residency MFA program at Murray State University.
She will be the Appalachian Reading Series’ featured author 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3 at LMU’s Carnegie Vincent Library in the Harold M. Finley Learning Resources Center. Admission is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.
