LMU MOURNS THE LOSS OF DR. KESTER GREENE, JR.
August 31, 2012 - LMU is mourning the loss of Dr. Kester Greene, Jr. , associate professor of education, who passed away at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center on Thursday, August 30, 2012.
Dr. Greene joined the LMU faculty in 2005, first working in the Carter and Moyers School of Education Undergraduate Education Department. He would eventually take his talent to the Master of Education Initial Teacher Licensure Program where he taught reading and language arts. Dr. Greene was based out of LMU-Cedar Bluff. A lifetime educator, he had extensive experience as an elementary teacher, principal and director of schools in Maryland. Prior to joining LMU he served as Superintendent of Schools in Grayson County Virginia and Professor and Chair of the Education Department at Carson-Newman College. He earned and EdD in Educational Leadership from NOVA Southeaster and held a Master of Education degree in Curriculum and Instruction with Administration from Townson State University in Maryland. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Education from Carson-Newman College.
Dr. Greene lived in Talbott, Tenn., and was a Baptist minister. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Doris Greene; parents Kester H. Greene Sr. and Christina Greene; son, Christopher (Roxanna) Greene; step daughters, Darlene McKenny and Deborah Grimes; sister, Janice (John) Tores; and grandchildren, Todd and Seth Greene and Braiona McKenny.
Dr. Greeneās family will receive friends on Saturday, September 1, from 5-8 p.m. at Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 2, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Bradley Bull and Rev. Scott Helton officiating. Interment will follow at Jefferson Memorial Gardens.
