ADDICTION MEDICINE EXPERT ERIC REED TO SPEAK TO LMU STUDENT BODY

September 13, 2012 - Harrogate, Tennessee — The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) undergraduate student body will gather on Tuesday, September 18, for Fall Convocation where addiction medicine expert Eric Reed will present “Getting a HIGHer Education: What All Students Should Know About Drug Use.”

The University hosts convocation twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring, to celebrate the dawning of new academic semesters. LMU received a grant from the NCAA to bring Reed in. He will also spend an evening with the Railsplitter Athletic Department, addressing the student-athletes regarding NCAA prohibited substances and how drugs affect performance in competitive sports.

“This is a great opportunity for our student-athletes to hear from a decorated expert in the field of addiction,” LMU Athletic Director Roger Vannoy said. “We are fortunate to have the NCAA support and to be able to share Mr. Reed’s message with the entire student body.”

Reed, of Birmingham, Ala., is the owner and president of Analytical Testing Group, one of the largest drug testing providers in the Southeast. He is a licensed professional counselor, state certified alcohol and drug counselor and nationally board certified addiction counselor. Reed has been recognized as a Top Counselor in Who’s Who in Medicine. He holds a Bachelor of Science in allied health and a doctorate in psychology from Southern Illinois University. Reed’s work has been honored by the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Spencer Bachus and former Alabama Senator Hank Irwin.

The event, which is open to the public, will take place at Tex Turner Arena at 9:30 a.m.
