CHANGE COMING TO LMU'S SCHOOL OF BUSINESS LEADERSHIP
June 18, 2013 - Harrogate, Tennessee — Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) School of Business Dean Jack McCann has announced the appointment of Dr. Thomas Kohntopp as director of the Master of Business Administration Program (MBA) and associate professor of business. Kohntopp’s will assume the position, effective July 1, 2013.
Kohntopp has served as adjunct instructor of business at LMU since 2009. His resume is packed with both academic and business experience as he has served as dean of academic affairs at ITT in Knoxville, director of education at East Tennessee Children's Hospital, and in other managerial roles. Kohntopp received his doctorate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, majoring in industrial and organizational psychology. Additionally he has more than 25 years’ experience as both an internal resource and an external consultant for a variety of public and private-sector organizations in the United States and Europe. His specialization is in human resources, management and executive training and development, organization assessment and development, and survey research.
Kohntopp previously served as the manager of leadership and executive development programs at the University of Tennessee Institute for Public Service and was professor of organizational management with Tusculum College, where he taught in a part-time capacity for more than 25 years and guided the master’s research for almost 100 graduate students. Tusculum honored Kohntopp with an Outstanding Adjunct Faculty award in 2007. Kohntopp has also held leadership positions in human resources with the City of Knoxville, East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, and Energy Systems.
Kohntopp is a licensed psychologist specializing in the areas of business, industry and personnel. He is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and a contributor to a McGraw-Hill Academic Advisory Board in human resources. Kohntopp is also a member in the Academy of Management, the American Society for Training and Development, the American Society for Public Administration, the Association for Psychological Science and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
LMU’s MBA program three distinct options including a part-time option for working professionals; a full-time day program that can be completed in one year and a professional MBA program designed for professionals who have already earned a graduate degree outside of business, but now require or desire a formal business education. The program is offered at the LMU main campus in Harrogate, Tenn., and at two extended learning sites, LMU-Cedar Bluff in Knoxville, Tenn., and in Sevier County, Tenn., at Walters State Community College.
