The guest speaker will be Dr. George Gross, a civilian employee with the United States Marine Corps in Quantico, Va. The lecture is free and open to the public.

Gross will speak on the topic “"Retribution and Rebirth in the American Civil War -- Lincoln's Perspective." The talk will examine Lincoln's theme that the Civil War was a punishment for the crime of American slavery, and it will explore a variety of Scriptural meanings in Lincoln's idea of "a new birth of freedom" at Gettysburg. Gross holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Chicago.
