DR. JAMES L. HURLEY NAMED DEAN OF LMU SCHOOL OF BUSINESS
June 8, 2015 - Harrogate, Tennessee — Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) President B. James Dawson announced the appointment of Dr. James L. Hurley as dean of the LMU School of Business.
“I am excited to welcome Dr. James L. Hurley to LMU,” Dawson said. “The School of Business will benefit greatly from his experience, especially his past success with global outreach.”
The LMU School of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). LMU offers undergraduate business majors and programs in accounting, finance, management, marketing, entrepreneurship and professional golf management at the main campus location in Harrogate, Tennessee. The business core is also available at LMU’s Cedar Bluff extended learning site in Knoxville. Additionally, the University’s Master of Business Administration (MBA) program is available in Harrogate and Knoxville with concentrations in accounting, finance, human relations management, international business, management and marketing. The School of Business also offers a dual MBA degree in conjunction with the LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and LMU’s College of Veterinary Medicine.
Hurley comes to LMU following a tenure as president of the University of Pikeville (UPIKE). Hurley returned to his alma mater, UPIKE, in 2009 and served in various roles, including vice president for enrollment management, executive vice president and president-elect, until his inauguration as president in 2013. An experienced educator and administrator, Hurley spent 11 years in the public education system, serving in numerous roles, including as principal, assistant principal, dean of students, teacher and athletic coach.
UPIKE achieved its largest enrollment in history and experienced unprecedented programmatic growth under Hurley’s leadership. He enhanced UPIKE’s globalization and diversity efforts by expanding international student opportunities and developing three international campus partnerships in China. Hurley’s vision and leadership resulted in three new colleges during his presidency including the Coleman College of Business, the Patton College of Education and the Kentucky College of Optometry. A successful fundraiser, Hurley helped UPIKE launch an ambitious capital campaign, raising $62 million toward the $75 million goal. He also served as a professor of education and leadership.
“I am honored and excited to be selected as the dean of the School of Business,” Hurley said. “I look forward to working with the administration, faculty, staff and students to continue advancing economic opportunities and business education at the regional, national and international level. My family and I look forward to being part of the LMU family.”
A graduate of UPIKE, Hurley earned a master’s degree from Indiana University, a Rank I from the University of Kentucky and his superintendent’s certification and an educational doctorate at Morehead State University. He is the proud father of two sons, Drew and Carter.
