LMU VISITING MUSICIAN SERIES CONTINUES WITH REBECCA WASCOE



October 29, 2009 - Harrogate, Tennessee – Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) will welcome soprano Rebecca Wascoe for a recital at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 5. The visit is part of the University’s Fine Arts Series.

Wascoe will perform music by composers Delibes, Wagner, Dvorak, Scheer, Moore, Floyd and Beach and will be accompanied by Andrew Duncan, Music Director at Fountain City United Methodist Church in Knoxville, on the piano. The recital will take place at the Harrogate United Methodist Church.

Wascoe, a Texas native, is an award-winning soprano and assistant professor of voice at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss. She is known for her commanding stage presence and being vocally resplendent. Wascoe’s vocal training began in Texas, where she earned a bachelor's degree in musical theatre from the University of Texas in Arlington. She also holds a master's degree in vocal performance from the University of North Texas, where she studied with Lynn Eustis, Harold Heiberg and Jeannine Crader. She completed a doctorate in Vocal Performance and Literature at the University of Illinois where she studied with Sylvia Stone, Jeffrey Peterson, Julie Gunn and Thomas Schleis.

Wascoe made her European debut at the Annual Voice Festival in Dierbach, Germany, in 2006. She was named the winner of the Gerda Lissner Foundation Awards in 2006 and 2008. She also placed in the Sigma Iota Graduate Performance Awards and was a Finalist in the Second Annual Charles A. Lynam Competition and the Opera Company in the Quad Cities Competition. She has been recognized as a semi-finalist in many other international competitions, including the Marguerite McCammon, the Dallas Opera Guild, Opera Birmingham, Irma M. Cooper Opera Columbus Competition and the Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation.
