MOUNTAIN HERITAGE LITERARY FESTIVAL ADDS QUILT EXHIBITION



April 18, 2011 - Harrogate, Tennessee, April 18, 2011—Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Paul V. Hamilton School of Arts and Sciences will present a quilt exhibition at the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum (ALLM) from May 28 through June 29. The exhibition will be part of LMU’s Mountain Heritage Literary Festival.

An open call for entries is currently underway. Open to artists living in Appalachia, the entries must be original works of art, handcrafted by the artist. There is a limit of two entries per artists and the quilts can be made from any media. The entries must be no larger than 48 inches in any direction and all works must be of material stable enough to withstand handling and exhibiting or prepared for installation upon entry.

There is no cost to enter the exhibition. If artists are shipping quilts, delivery may occur anytime before May 27. Artists are expected to incur the cost of shipping their accepted work if personal delivery is not possible. Artists also need to arrange return shipping at the show conclusion. An entry form must be completed and submitted along with six digital images of the quilt by 5 p.m. on May 5, 2011. Electronic submissions will also be accepted. The Exhibition Committee will notify artists selected for the exhibition by email or telephone by May 16.

Awards will be given at an awards reception during the opening festivities of the Mountain Heritage Literary Festival on June 24. Quilts will be judged in categories including Best in Show, Best Combination, Best Rookie, Viewer’s Choice, Masters, Youth 18 and Younger and College Student.
