LMU STUDENTS IN FREE ENTERPRISE TO SPONSOR “LET’S CAN HUNGER CHALLENGE
November 9, 2011 - Lincoln Memorial University (LMU)’s Students In Free Enterprise (SIFE) committee will host the second annual “Let’s Can Hunger Challenge” on Friday, November 11, and Saturday, November 12.
The food drive coincides with LMU’s hosting of the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference volleyball tournament this weekend, scheduled to take place at Mary E. Mars Gymnasium on the LMU main campus in Harrogate, Tenn. Fans attending the tournament are asked to bring canned food items or make a $1.00 donation to join the fight against hunger in the local community. Each can or dollar donated qualifies the person making the donation to win other items that have been given to help the cause. All donations will go to benefit Servolution Ministries, a non-denominational food pantry located in Speedwell, Tenn.
"Our goal is to raise awareness of just how many people in this world go hungry every day," said LMU-SIFE President Sofia Lopez Mimendi. "Last year was a great start for our first effort, but this year we really want to raise the bar by generating more than 6,000 cans to fight hunger."
Last year’s “Let’s Can Hunger Challenge” generated donations of more than 5,000 cans of food that benefitted the hungry in Claiborne County, Tenn. Members of the LMU-SIFE committee will be set up near the entrance during the tournament to collect donations.
