ABRAHAM LINCOLN LIBRARY AND MUSEUM PRESENTS "CHRISTMAS WITH THE LINCOLNS"

December 2, 2011 - Harrogate, Tennessee – The Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum (ALLM) will host its annual “Christmas with the Lincolns” event at 7 p.m. on Friday, December 9 in the Arnold Auditorium of the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum (ALLM) on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University (LMU).

The program will include an original play depicting the White House on Christmas Eve 1862 while the President and Tad anxiously await Mrs. Lincoln’s return from visiting soldiers in the Washington area hospitals. Dennis Boggs returns to portray President Lincoln in this year’s presentation. Zachariah Wiles will portray young Tad Lincoln.

Immediately following the “Christmas with the Lincolns” presentation, Ms. Conny Ottway will join with the staff of the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum in commemorating the Sesquicentennial of the American Civil War by presenting a concert of selected Civil War musical pieces. This special event is designed to incorporate the haunting sounds of music from the Civil War years as well as introduce the history of songs played and sung in those long ago encampments or on the march from battlefield to battlefield during America’s devastating Civil War.

Music during the Civil War era helped inspire soldiers, reminded them of their reasons for leaving home to fight against their countrymen, and helped convey memories of family, friends and special loved ones who remained on the home front. Utilized by both Union and Confederate soldiers to help alleviate the boredom of marching or long periods spent in far flung encampments, the music of the Civil War will resounds again during this Christmas season.
