LMU WOMEN OF SERVICE PRESENT FIRST SCHOLARSHIP
January 27, 2012 - Harrogate, Tennessee — Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) Women of Service (WOS) has awarded its first scholarship to Caylor School of Nursing Student Lisa Pilon Miles.
WOS members Cynthia C. Whitt, vice present for university advancement, and Joyce Mears, professor of graduate education, awarded Miles the scholarship last week. The funds were raised through the service organization’s Christmas Festival and donations made since the organization was founded last August. The goal of the program is to pursue service opportunities on behalf of and benefiting the University and its students.
Miles is a full-time nursing student in the Caylor School of Nursing’s generic Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program at the LMU-Cedar Bluff extending learning site in Knoxville, Tenn. A single mother of an eight-year-old daughter, Miles also works a second job in the evening to support her and her daughter. She is in her second semester of studies at LMU and hopes to become an emergency room or trauma nurse when she is finished.
Whitt said WOS anticipates awarding more scholarships as the organization continues to develop. “We are very proud to award Lisa Miles with our first scholarship. She embodies everything that LMU and Women of Service stand for. It is very gratifying to be able to provide assistance to one of our many outstanding students at LMU,” Whitt said.
