LMU SCHOOL OF BUSINESS SIGNS MOU WITH CAIRD



July 23, 2012 - Lincoln Memorial University (LMU)’s Central Appalachian Center for Economic Development (CACED) in Harrogate, Tenn., and the University of Pikeville’s Central Appalachian Institute for Research & Development (CAIRD) in Pikeville, Ky., have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) establishing a partnership between the two entities.

CACED is administered by the School of Business at LMU. The purpose of the partnership is to mutually promote applied research which will identify and address the complex, systemic social and economic problems facing the Central Appalachian region. The parties will conduct collaborative research which will provide a mechanism to channel expertise with the goal of reducing the number of economically distressed counties in Kentucky. The MOU was signed by CAIRD CEO Jason Belcher and LMU School of Business Dean Jack McCann.

“LMU and the School of Business are excited about the further development of this partnership and the opportunity to help the people of Central Appalachia,” said McCann.

CAIRD is a non-profit, public policy organization which provides long-term educational and economic developmental strategies in to order to establish vibrant and sustainable communities that will improve the quality of life for citizens of central Appalachia. CACED is a resource for the citizens of the Central Appalachian region that will provide education, training, consulting and research with the goal of improving economic conditions and job opportunities, improving per capita income, promoting entrepreneurship and preparing business leaders who can compete globally.
