November 8, 2013 - Catherine Hassett of North Andover, Mass., has been named a Student D.O. for the month of November at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tenn. Hassett is a second-year osteopathic medical student at LMU-DCOM.

The Student D.O. of the Month is a program of the LMU-DCOM Student Government Association (SGA) and is designed to recognize an outstanding first- and second-year student each month. Among the criteria examined for the honor are involvement in LMU-DCOM, leadership skills, community service, class attendance, initiative, attitude and professionalism. Nominations are made to the SGA and voted on by the officers.

Hassett received her Bachelor of Science degree in biology from Fairfield University and her Master of Science degree in biomedical sciences from Tufts University. She was actively involved in biomedical research at both Tufts and Fairfield University. At LMU-DCOM Hassett serves as a tutor for first-year students for the Molecular Fundamentals of Medicine course. She is on the volunteer committee for the Family Medicine Club, a member of the Internal Medicine and Student Osteopathic Medical Association clubs, and serves as a volunteer dog walker for the Claiborne (Tenn.) Animal Shelter. Hassett was inducted into the LMU chapter of the Alpha Chi National Academic Honor Society last year. She is the daughter of John and Helen Hassett of North Andover.
