LMU-DCOM’S WIETING NAMED DISTINGUISHED FELLOW
April 23, 2014 - Dr. Michael Wieting, senior associate dean at Lincoln Memorial University-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) in Harrogate, Tenn., has been named a Distinguished Fellow of the American Osteopathic College of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (AOCPMR). The honor was bestowed at the AOCPMR’s recent membership banquet on April 5, 2014. Wieting is a member of the AOCPMR’s inaugural class of Distinguished Fellows.
The Distinguished Fellow designation for the AOCPMR is reserved for highly distinguished AOA board-certified osteopathic physicians who are Fellows of the AOCPMR and who have achieved regional, national or international recognition for their clinical expertise, teaching, research, administrative and other leadership, and accomplishments which have elevated the status of osteopathic physiatry and whose involvement in local, state, regional, national or international organizations has raised their level of excellence and brought recognition to the American Osteopathic Association and to osteopathic PM&R in particular. Candidates must possess a record of sustained professional accomplishment, recognized on at least a national level, in clinical medicine and/or scholarship and research, and/or teaching/administration or leadership within and outside the osteopathic profession. This record of achievement must come from at least three of these areas: service to AOCPMR, service to AOA and the osteopathic profession at large, service to the medical profession on a national/international level, and service to the specialty of physical medicine and rehabilitation.
At LMU-DCOM Wieting also serves as dean of clinical medicine, vice president for program development and professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation and osteopathic principles and practice. Wieting is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation and is a fellow in the AOCPMR as well as the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Wieting was named an AOCPMR fellow in 2000.
He received his doctor of osteopathic medicine degree from Oklahoma State University-College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of Minnesota Hospital and Clinics. He completed fellowship programs in electrodiagnostic medicine/primary care sports medicine at Michigan State University-College of Osteopathic Medicine and in health policy at the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and the New York Institute of Technology.
