LMU POOL GRAND RE-OPENING SET FOR MARCH 12
March 1, 2007 - Harrogate, Tennessee, March 1, 2007— After months of repairs and improvements, the Lincoln Memorial University Pool is ready to make a splash once again. The LMU Pool, which is located in the Annan Natatorium adjacent to Mary Mars Gymnasium, will re-open to the public on Monday, March 12.
In honor of the re-opening, all classes and open swim sessions during the first week will be free.
Since its closing in November, a new circulation system including 14 new jets was installed. Additionally, the pool’s heater and pump were replaced and drainage around the pool deck was improved. “This new circulation system will make such a difference. The pool only had two and a half jets in working condition prior to the repairs, and I can not tell you what difference the new heater will make,” Director of Aquatic Services Floyde Ann Gardner said.
Both the pool deck and the pool were repainted after the repairs. The locker rooms and bathrooms were also given a facelift. All of Mary Mars Gym has undergone a transformation in the last year. New tile has been laid at the entrances, the gym floor was resurfaced over the summer and will be touched up again, a new weight room was installed, and the roof was repaired.
The pool will resume its regular schedule starting on March 12. Open swim will be available from 1 p.m. until 6 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Mondays; from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays; from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and from 7:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays; from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturdays; and from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Sundays. Admission for open swim is $2 per session or $20 for monthly unlimited sessions and $199 for a yearly pass. Family passes are also available for $30 monthly or $299 for a yearly pass. LMU also offers a number of aquatic programs throughout the week. Each program or class is $3 person or you can purchase a pass for 18 classes for $50.
Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. children in first grade through middle school are invited to “Swim with J.B.” The program offers organized games, some swim instruction and free swim. Swim Club with Bill Stapleton meets from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays. The program is open to fifth graders and above. It focuses on perfecting strokes and could include some competitive swimming.

LMU is also offering a new Master Swim program. Despite its elite-sounding name, United States Masters Swimming (USMS) welcomes swimmers of all abilities. Any swimmer who wants to improve overall fitness, develop better technique, train for a triathlon, consider competition, or is just attracted to the water for any reason, is a perfect fit for USMS. USMS is a national organization that provides organized workouts, clinics, workshops and competitions for swimmers ages 18 and over. USMS sessions will take place at LMU on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m.; from noon until 1 p.m.; and from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. Contact Gardner for more information about this new program or any of the aquatic programs at (423) 869-6243.
