A.R. GURNEY'S "LOVE LETTERS" OPENS TO PUBLIC APRIL 14
April 9, 2007 - Harrogate, Tennessee — Lincoln Memorial University’s Railsplitter Playmakers Dinner Theatre will present A.R. Gurney’s Love Letters on Saturday, April 14, and Friday and Saturday, April 20 and 21. Two people, whose correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards, continue the lifelong exchange of letters. In the end it has become eloquently clear how much they really meant and gave to each other over the years— physically apart, perhaps, but spiritually as close as only true lovers can be.
LMU Professor John Irvine directs and performs in the production. Dr. Irvine has long been involved with the Railsplitter Playmakers Dinner Theatre, stretching back twenty-nine years, directing and performing in such productions as Steel Magnolias, Bedroom Farce, The Mousetrap, The Importance of Being Earnest, The Foreigner, You Can’t Take it With You, female version of The Odd Couple, Crimes of the Heart and others. His wife, Billie, will also perform. Billie has also been involved in may past productions.
Reservations for the Railsplitter Playmaker’s Dinner Theatre must be made in advance by calling Sodexho Campus Food Services at 423-869-6206 or 6207. Performances are staged in the Lincoln Memorial University Dining Hall in the Student Center. A buffet dinner will be served prior to the play starting at 6:30. Showtime is 8:00. Tickets are $21. Two Popcorn Night performances will also be presented. At these performances dinner is not served. They will take place on Thursday, April 12 and Wednesday April 18. Popcorn Night performances are free for LMU faculty, staff and students and $5 for the general public.
