LMU HAS POSITIVE SACS VISIT
February 23, 2009 - Harrogate, Tennessee—The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) On-Site Committee Reaffirmation of Accreditation Visit at Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) wrapped up on Thursday with a team of peer reviewers reporting to faculty, staff and administration officials their findings. The On-Site Committee had no recommendations for LMU. Had there been recommendations, LMU would have had five months to address the concerns and report back to SACS-COC.
The On-Site Committee arrived at LMU on Sunday and concluded their visit on Thursday. Their review followed submission of the LMU Compliance Certification Report in September which was reviewed by the Off-Site Committee in November. Following the Off-Site review, a Focused Report from the COC was received by LMU in December. LMU officials responded to areas where the Off-Site Committee did not have adequate documentation to determine if the institution was or was not in compliance. SACS-COC will conduct a Commission review of LMU’s Off-Site and On-Site review reports prior to announcing its decision on reaffirmation of accreditation. The COC’s finding will be announced following the final review at an upcoming SACS meeting.
“This very positive outcome is the result of many years of planning which has resulted in the University coming into full compliance with SACS-COC and can be attributed to the dedication and hard work of everyone involved with Lincoln Memorial University,” President Nancy Moody said.
SACS-COC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states. The Commission’s mission is the enhancement of educational quality throughout the region and it strives to improve the effectiveness of institutions by ensuring that institutions meet standards established by the higher education community that address the needs of society and students. It serves as the common denominator of shared values and practices among the diverse institutions in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Latin America and other international sites approved by the Commission on Colleges that award associate, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degrees. LMU’s Level V accreditation from SACS allows it to award associate, baccalaureate, master’s, educational specialist and doctoral degrees.
