LMU TO CELEBRATE THE SEASON WITH ANNUAL TREE LIGHTING
November 19, 2009 - Harrogate, Tennessee– Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) invites the community to its annual tree lighting ceremony at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 3, outside the Elizabeth D. Chinnock Chapel. Following the tree lighting, the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra (KSCO) will perform a concert of classical and popular holiday favorites at 7:30 p.m. in the Duke Hall of Citizenship Auditorium. The event is sponsored by LMU and the City of Harrogate. Admission is free and open to the public.
The tree lighting ceremony will also feature Christmas carols, festive storytelling and a visit from Santa Claus. Refreshments will be served in the Duke Hall of Citizenship lobby prior to the KSCO concert.
This year, the KSCO has tapped one of LMU’s own to feature. Assistant Professor of Music Sean Greene has been invited to perform a solo during the concert. Greene will be performing the second movement of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Concerto, also called “Romanza” with the orchestra under the direction of James Fellenbaum, KSO Associate Conductor.
In conjunction with the tree lighting and concert, the University will once again be collecting items for Mission of Hope’s annual Christmas Campaign. This will be the 13th year for the Christmas Campaign. The Christmas Campaign focuses on providing food, new clothing, hygiene items, books and new toys to needy families throughout rural Appalachia. For a complete list of items needed, please visit www.missionofhope.org. The University will collect items through Thursday, December 3. Collection boxes are located at the Student Center and in the lobby of LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine.
