LMU WINTER COMMENCEMENT
December 7, 2009 - On Saturday, December 12, Lincoln Memorial University will welcome the families and friends of approximately 483 undergraduate and graduate students participating in winter commencement activities. Wall Street investment banker Wilma Jordan will be the featured commencement speaker, and educational specialist degree candidate Karen Davis-Beggs will give the student address.
Jordan, founder and CEO of The Jordan, Edmiston Group, Inc. (JEGI), leads a successful investment bank for media, information marketing services and related technologies. Since its founding in 1987, JEGI has completed nearly 500 transactions for global and emerging companies, entrepreneurial owners and private equity and venture capital firms.
Jordan’s extensive media industry experience includes having founded, owned, managed, advised and served on the board of directors of a number of high-profile companies, including publishing, broadcasting, marketing and internet businesses. She also serves as director of Guideposts, Inc., publisher of Guideposts Magazine and a leading provider of other inspirational magazines, books and related products and ministry programs.
Jordan, a Knoxville, Tenn., native, holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee. She was the 2000 recipient of the Financial Women’s Association of New York Entrepreneur of the Year Award and the 1999 recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award for distinguished alumni of the University of Tennessee. She recently served as chair of its 21st Century Campaign and is a member of the University of Tennessee College of Business Advisory Council.
Davis-Beggs is currently in her 16th year of teaching at Surgoinsville Middle School in Hawkins County, Tennessee. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Virginia at Wise with an endorsement to teach special education in 1992. Karen earned High Honors and a Master of Arts degree from Tusculum College with a focus upon curriculum and instructional design in 2008 before entering LMU’s educational specialist program.
