JFWA EXCEEDS STATE, NATIONAL ACT AVERAGES

August 25, 2010 - The J. Frank White Academy (JFWA) continued its tradition of academic excellence by exceeding state and national composite average results of the ACT test now four years in a row.

The 14 seniors who took the test in May scored an average of 21.9, exceeding Tennessee’s average of 19.6 and Kentucky’s average of 19.4, according to statistics released by the ACT organization. The national average is 21.

Across the board, the academy exceeded Tennessee’s and Kentucky’s averages in individual subject areas – English, math, reading and science – as well. With an average English test score of 23.1, JFWA bested average English scores in Tennessee (19.4), Kentucky (18.9) and nationally (20.5).

“Last year’s scores and our ability to consistently score higher on the ACT than the Tennessee, Kentucky and national averages is a testament to the dedication of our student body and hard work of our teachers,” said JFWA Principal Jarryd Boster. “I believe the individualized attention we can offer our students coupled with the support of our parents and community stakeholders help us to develop a culture of success.”

JFWA also surpassed the state and national percentage of students’ readiness for college-level coursework, based on benchmarks in the ACT’s four subject areas. Ninety-three percent of JFWA students exceeded the ACT’s English composition benchmark and 79 percent surpassed the social science benchmark. The Academy has a 100 percent college placement rate for their graduates.

“As with any successful school, we are constantly striving to find new and innovative ways to help our students learn,” continued Boster. “I am very proud of the success of our students here at the Academy and am eager to see how high scores with this year’s students will be.”

The J. Frank White Academy is a private coeducational college preparatory school located on the campus of Lincoln Memorial University and serves students grades 5-12 from Claiborne, Union, Campbell and Hancock counties in Tennessee; Bell County, Kentucky; and Lee County, Virginia.
