LMU JOINS NATION IN CELEBRATING NATIONAL VETERINARY TECHNICIAN WEEK

October 10, 2010 - The Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) joins the nation in celebrating National Veterinary Technician Week October 10-16. The National Association of Veterinary Technicians in America (NAVTA) has themed the 2010 event “Hands-on-Healing.”

The theme describes what veterinary technicians do on a daily basis for their clients and patients. Celebrating for one week every year solidifies the yearly commitment every veterinary technician gives the profession of veterinary technology, veterinary assisting and veterinary medicine.

In addition to activities next week, LMU’s Veterinary Technology Program will host its annual Fun Dog Show on Saturday, October 23. The event will take place at Haymaker Farms in Cumberland Gap, Tenn.

NVTW has been an annual tradition beginning in June of 1993 when a NAVTA resolution was passed declaring the third week in October as NVTW. Activities to celebrate this week have been a focus of the celebratory efforts. The activities serve these fundamental goals:
•Educate the public about veterinary technicians and what we do.
•Reinforce the value and professionalism of veterinary technicians.
•Provide an opportunity for veterinary technicians to encourage one another for excellent work ethic and team building.
•Acknowledge our quality relationship with veterinarians and other veterinary professionals.
